Review Of The Meditations Essays - Epistemology, Doubt, Skepticism

Review Of The Meditations The Meditations of Rene Descartes In 1916 Rene Descartes wrote What I wish to finish is . . . an absolutely new science enabling one to resolve all questions proposed on any order of continuos or discontinuous quantities. (p8 Methods & Meditations). He made this ambitious statement at the young age of twenty-three. Rene's ambition would take him far but it kept him from becoming the Aristotle of the modern age. The Meditations were an attempt to solve the many questions about life, existence, and God. At the time of their publishing many philosophers did not quit accept his writings. Today however the Meditations are widely read and reviewed throughout the world. In the First Meditation Rene begins by stating that he know doubts his previous views and is forced to take a serious look at what he considers to be true. Rene will go as far to doubt God and whether he is truly good. His First Meditation will end with Descartes seemingly troubled over the nature of God. The meditations continue with his questioning of almost everything important to existence. Rene seemed unable to admit anything as truthful. The mind is something of great weakness and error, Descartes would say. He would continue and urge us not to trust what we see because there is no way of being certain about anything. Methodological doubt was his basis on life claiming that everything is to be doubted. Rene Descartes first begins to come to some kind of belief by the Third Meditation. Rene states . . . I am certain that I am a thinking being; but do I not therefore likewise know what is required to make me certain of something? (p113 Methods & Meditations). He goes on to say th at God could not possibly be deceitful, it would not be his divine nature. This is when things start to come together for Rene. After acknowledging that a divine God could not possibly be evil Rene goes even further to say that he (God) must exist. This equation sounds strange but to this point Rene never really considered if God even existed or if he was simply a part of his imagination. Rene's motto, De omnibus dubitandumest (everything is to be doubted), lead him back to basic proofs. His theory of analytical geometry was the first major contribution to the field of science. This theory helped to offset some of his doubts and in many ways gave him the realization that some qualities in life can be proven. For Descartes rule of everything to be doubted was only part of his philosophical life. While taking this rule very serious he did not recommend it as a way of life. Descartes was only interested in the study of wisdom. He knew that the wisdom learned would be a sort of stepping stone for later generations. Going even further he states, My wish is that prosperity may witness the happy outcome of it, etc. (p187 Methods and Meditations). The Meditations of Rene Descartes in many ways are a very valuable piece of philosophy. He did what many people did not in taking a close look at seemingly everything imaginable and studying its part in this world. He realized that his doubt alone made him an imperfect being. For a perfect being would know all and have nothing to doubt, Descartes would claim. At the time his teachings were not excepted but this did not discourage him too much. The mathematical theories were what made him famous so to speak. They are probably the single most important contribution that he made early on in his life. The idea of a posteriori led him in the study all things he could not prove in his mathematical theories. At first the Meditations seemed random and confusing but after reading them more closely they made sense and even made me think about what we really believe to be true. Word Essay Example

Word Essay Example Word Essay Word Essay Not everyone is willing to use a bad word as their topic for an article, but Beverly Gross, who is an English professor in college, uses â€Å"Bitch† as a topic for her article. After a class discussion, Gross starts to think about what is the certain meaning of â€Å"bitch†. She wants to find out the specific definition for this derogatory word, she uses a lot of definition from dictionaries and anecdotes. In this article, Gross appeals heavily to logos to prove her argument that there is no certain definition of the word bitch and that the meaning depends on both the time and the context. Gross lists many definitions from different dictionaries to support her claim in a logical way. For example, the main meaning from the Oxford English Dictionary: 1. The female of the dog. 2. Applied opprobriously to a woman; strictly a lewd or sensual woman. Not now in decent use. This English dictionary represents the authority, but for this word, the definition is clearly understandable. Dictionary said bitch is female dog; this is truly a humiliation to women in any contents. Every women would hate people connect dogs to them in the past, now or future. She also lists few definitions from Eugene E. Landy’s The Underground Dictionary: 1. Female who is mean, selfish, cruel, malicious, deceiving, a. k. a. cunt. The words that describe bitch are all derogatory sence. But the definition from this dictionary is not that strong as the Oxford English Dictionary. The meaning of bitch is changing during this time. In this article, gross wrote â€Å"a word used by men who are threatened by women† was one astute response. Threat lurks everywhere: for women the threat is being called bitch. I knew it when I finished read this article. According to Gross â€Å"there is no classifiable thing as a bitch, only a label produced by the act of name-calling† (489). Gross’s point is that there is no certain definition of word bitch, what we learn from the dictionaries is bitch’s meaning is always changing over the time. I found Gross’s article very informative. Although I think women dislike word bitch, I am a girl, I would never call other females bitch. Gross revealed a number of anecdotes to improve her claim. For example, Madonna said that she enjoyed expressing herself, it was not merely the explanation for why Madonna gets called a bitch, but it was the key to defusing the power of bitch to fetter and subdue. Gross makes an important point is that long time ago, women wouldn’t let someone else call her bitch, because it’s a bad word, however, in Twenty-first century, women are not subdued by the word bitch. But in fact, I wouldn’t let someone call me bitch!

Economy in India Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Economy in India - Term Paper Example I, in this paper, discuss the economy of India through exploring the country’s macroeconomic indicators. Economic indicators Macroeconomics defines larger aspects of an economy. The factors are comprehensive and affect overall state of an economy with diversified effects on all stakeholders in the economy. Examples of macroeconomic factors that offer a basis to reviewing the economy of India are domestic gross product, unemployment, inflation, consumer price index, foreign direct investment, and international trade (Dwivedi). Gross domestic product Gross domestic product is the monetary value of the amount of goods and services that a country produces within an economic period, normally a year. It indicates productivity level of an economy and shows derivable benefits from the output. An economy with high gross domestic product can therefore be associated with positive prospects and increasing trend in the value identifies a growing economy that can offer investment opportunit ies and utilities among its citizens (Dwivedi 55). India’s gross domestic product is estimated at about $ 1867 billion, a value that is comparatively high. Prospects in the gross domestic product can however be understood from its trend. ... By April 2013, the country’s gross domestic product was estimated at $ 1867.4 billion, more than twice its value in 2005 and the constant trend predict continued expansion. This means that India’s economy has growth potentials and is therefore a viable economy for investment. The increasing productivity also means availability of commodity for utilities and employment opportunities (Exim Bank, 1). Closer evaluation of the country’s gross domestic product by the economy’s major sectors identifies service industry as the major contributor of the country’s output as it accounts for more than 50 percent of India’s gross domestic product. Industrial sector follows it before the agricultural sector and its associated activities. A time series trend in the sectors over the past eight years also offers significant insight into India’s economy. The percentage contribution by the agricultural sector has been decreasing while percentage contribut ion from the service sector has been increasing with significantly constant percentage contribution from the industrial sector. The agricultural sector and its allied activities generated more than 18 percent of the country’s gross domestic product in the year ended 2006 but the value reduced steadily to record about 14 percent in the year 2013. Contribution from the service industry however increased from less that 54 percent in the year ended 2006 to 58.4 percent in the year ended 2013 and this shows a shifting trend from agricultural activities to the service industry (Exim Bank, 1). Another significant feature of the economy’s gross domestic product is the consumption and its trend. Private sector is the major consumer of the economy’s output and its consumption rate has a steadily increasing trend.

World History Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

World History - Essay Example In the 21st century, women now make up 44% of the work force compared to women barely working outside of the home at all in the medieval period (Waite 2002). During Medieval times, Stuard (1993) points out that it was the male that had almost all of the legal say so over the rights of his family, land ownership, and further, even holding a position of dominance in marriage as well. However, many of the social customs of that time era were developed by the roles of women (Stuard 1993). Nevertheless, history does show that men carried the majority of the weight in the basic aspects of life during the medieval period. Furthermore, class and stature played a crucial role in what legal restrictions were placed on an entire family in the medieval period also (Stuard 1993). This of course has changed in the 21st century even though there can still be found different classes of people spread throughout the world. Even so, there is not the heavy emphasis on this as there once was. The many is sues of equality, family values, and economic concerns for the family as a whole, are what are predominant in today's period. To confirm this point it is found that the idea of social work is most profound to guarantee that family's have some level of equality in society.

Technology In Education - Research Paper Example From the discussion it is clear that  students are growing up with ideas of how to play educational games and also how to connect with the world beyond the classroom through popular social media sites. In the process of learning and reading, students are taught concepts like online privacy. Consequently, technology impacts on education at its foundation. Therefore, when the children get older, their time spent on computers significantly increases. To this end, they spend a great amount of time socializing with friends and online gaming. This paper stresses that learners are already skilled in using social media, therefore, the education system is trying to make education curriculum interesting by incorporating the social media savvy demographic. Consequently, some tutors are suggesting a controversial approach in which the school     curriculum adopts social media programs which will create relevancy for education to learners.  Educators communicate directly with leaders in th eir field and are able to compare educational techniques and curriculum through social media. Moreover, they use social sites to engage in innovative concepts as well as blogs to inform each other on new ideas globally. Teachers and professors are able to spread out a conversation to social media sites to create a global audience. To this end, it is evident that the impact of social media in education is creating an educational revolution.

Effect of Government Policies on Pricing Strategies

Effect of Government Policies on Pricing Strategies Long-Term Investment Decisions April Barnes Dr. Bernadette West Abstract In this paper I will outline a plan that managers in the low-calorie microwaveable food company could follow when selecting pricing strategies for making their products as inelastic as possible. I will then examine the major effects that government policies have on production and employment. I will predict the potential effects that government policies could have on the company. Afterwards, I will determine whether or not government regulation to ensure fairness in the low-calorie microwavable food industry is needed and cite the major reasons for government involvement in a market economy. After I will examine the major complexities that would arise under expansion via capital projects and propose key actions that the company could take in order to prevent or address these complexities. Lastly, I will suggest the substantive manner in which the company could create a convergence between the interests of stockholders and managers and indicate the most likely impact to profitability o f such a convergence. Outline a plan that managers in the low-calorie microwaveable food company could follow when selecting pricing strategies for making their products as inelastic as possible. Provide a rationale for your response. The price elasticity of demand affects a company’s pricing strategies by determining the optimal profit margin. Price elasticity of demand defines the degree of change of demand in relation to the change in price of a product. The higher the elasticity, the higher the demand fluctuates in response to price. In general, most companies would like for their products to be inelastic. When a product is inelastic, the price of the good may increase, while the supply and demand of the product are unaffected. In other words, if the price of a product were to go up, consumers would still buy the product, as well as if the product price were to go down, consumers would still buy the product (Investopedia Inelastic, 2014). When considering the inelasticity of a product it is important to select the proper pricing strategy. When it comes to selecting the best pricing strategy, it is best to first understand what consumers are willing to spend on a product. This can be done by conducting m arket research and surveys. Managers can also select the pricing strategy by making reasonable assumptions based on historic purchases and patterns. Then managers should consider the competition and the quality of their products. If the competitor sells a product with high quality at a certain price, it is not feasible to sell a similar product with lower quality at a higher price point. The managers should first plan to sell each unit or product at the lowest price possible while still being able to break even and pay for all of the company’s expenses. When it comes to price strategizing, there is no potential for price discrimination. Price discrimination occurs when a seller sells a product for the highest price the consumer is willing to pay for (Investopedia Price Discrimination, 2014). When it comes to a microwaveable food company, there is no reason to sell products at different prices for each customer as it is also illegal. Examine the major effects that government policies have on production and employment. Predict the potential effects that government policies could have on your company. Government regulations and policies can have a positive as well as a negative impact on production and employment. when imposed on businesses substantially increase production and operating costs of the business which could result in reduced operating and economic profit, earning per share, earning stream, dividend and eventually market equity value for shareholders. The United States regulatory stringency has contributed to loss of U.S. manufacturing firms’ competitiveness in the international markets. This loss of competitiveness is believed to be reflected in declining exports, increasing imports and a long-term movement of manufacturing capacity from United States to other countries. As mentioned, government policies can have a positive impact as well, for example; the food safety regulations. The food safety regulations are standards and procedures that companies must follow to maintain a safe and sanitary environment for employees as well as for the consumers who purchas e the products (Food Safety Program, 2014). Food safety consists of regulating prepping, handling, and storage of food in ways that prevent foodborne illness and other sicknesses. If these rules were not in place, companies would manage food in any way they please and could potentially get consumers sick and face numerous lawsuits. Determine whether or not government regulation to ensure fairness in the low-calorie microwavable food industry is needed. Cite the major reasons for government involvement in a market economy. Provide two (2) examples of government involvement in a similar market economy to support your response. Government regulation is needed to ensure fairness in the low-calorie microwavable food industry. Government involvement is needed in a market economy to maintain social efficiency and equity. Social efficiency is attained at the mark where the marginal benefits to consumers for either production or consumption are equivalent to the marginal costs of either consumption or production. Matters of equity are challenging to evaluate due to the subjective assessment of what is and isn’t a fair sharing of resources (Pearson Education, 2010). As similar to the automotive industry, the government regulates many aspects. The government regulates auto manufacturing, repair, maintenance, recycling, sales and dealerships. The government also has policies regarding environmental, safety, and import regulations and standards (SBA, 2014). Examine the major complexities that would arise under expansion via capital projects. Propose key actions that the company could take in order to prevent or address these complexities. Capital expansion is generally an investment in a major company that wishes to expand or restructure operations without losing control of the business. Some disadvantages that may be faced when undergoing capital expansion would be business owners potentially losing a percentage of the company, investors wanting to be a part of day to day discussions and decisions as well as company secrets revealed (G. Segal, 2013). In order to address these complexities, the company can set up regulations or contracts with the investors or equity partners stating the conditions and ownership of the company. Suggest the substantive manner in which the company could create a convergence between the interests of stockholders and managers. Indicate the most likely impact to profitability of such a convergence. Provide two (2) examples of instances that support your response. One recommendation would be that the stockholders become very careful and adamant about the company’s expenses and cash flow. By creating share owners out of management, executive management will take action in its greatest interest as a shareowner, in which will be of an advantage to all equity investors (M. Anson, 2004). Creating share owners out of management would likely survive a merger or capital expansion because this gives the opportunity for the owners and investors to work together and make decisions that are best for the company. Children with Autism :: Autism Brain Disorder Essays

Children with Autism Abstract By identifying autism, many other facts are then discovered including the different effects of autism and the way it can be treated. Children with autism will mostly always experience language problems, restricted interests and activities, as well as sensory and intellectual problems. This occurs because of a brain disorder that influences the way the brain uses the information. Although some children with autism do not speak at all, that doesn’t mean that none of the patients speak. Some may repeat words or mimic sentences or phrases they have observed from someone else. As of yet there is no cure for autism, but there is a great amount of different medications that work very well at reducing the symptoms. Thesis Occurring in all races and social backgrounds around the world, autism is found four times more often in boys and usually the first-born (Autism Society Manitoba, 2001). According to Edition 5 of Mosby’s Medical, Nursing and Allied Health Dictionary, autism is a mental disorder characterized by extreme withdrawal and an abnormal absorption in fantasy, accompanied by delusion, hallucination, and inability to communicate verbally or otherwise relate to people. It is a lifelong disorder that obstructs ones capability to comprehend what is seen, heard, and touched. This causes profound problems in personal behavior and in the ability to relate to others. One with autism must learn how to communicate appropriately and to relate to people, objects and events. Even though a lot of patients that undergo autism have a lot of similar indications, they do not all suffer from the same degree of impairment. There is a full spectrum of symptoms, which can range from mild to severe (NA AR, 2002). Autism occurs in as many as one or two per one thousand people. Of those people, approximately fifty percent will never speak. By identifying autism many other facts are then discovered including the different effects of autism and the way it can be treated. Autism is a brain disorder that influences the way the brain uses and transmits information. Studies have found abnormalities in several parts of the brain that almost certainly occurred during fetal development. The problem may be centered in the parts of the brain responsible for processing language and information from the senses. One with autism will have language problems, restricted interests and activities, as well as sensory and intellectual problems (Cohen, 1987).

Hungry for LOVE

Everyone has desires, and one desire, love, is one for which most people crave. Pablo Neuron's poem â€Å"l Crave Your Mouth, Your Voice, Your Hair,† describes how someone is hungry for love. Other poets express this craving for love as fatal as others will tend to kill to be loved. In â€Å"Sonnet 43† by Elizabeth B. Browning and â€Å"Sonnet 116† by Shakespeare also express how powerful love can be. Although there are many differences, they share similarities with the devices they used to convey their messages. They both used imagery to describe the measurement of love in a creative way. Also, they used diction to express the realness in undying love. This is also shown through figurative language. The two sonnets use a wide variety of literary devices to clearly say love is forever. For Elizabeth and Shakespeare, love is far more complex than romance. They each discuss the measurement that is put on love through imagery, which helps define the overall meaning i n the poems. In Sonnet 43, line 2, it reads † I love thee to the depth and breadth and height. Elizabeth found a creative way to depict images of space, time, and eternity. She's basically saying there's no set height of how much she loves his person. In sonnet 1 16, line 8, Shakespeare says â€Å"whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken. † He's clearly saying we don't know the value of love, but we're always trying to measure it. Nevertheless, the two sonnets use imagery to help clarify that if it is true love, then it can not be measured nor contained; it will forever prosper past limitations. In Sonnet 43 and Sonnet 1 16, the diction used is quite different in tones, but they both state the same overall meaning. In Elizabethan Sonnet, 43, her word choice voiced a tone of Joy, proud, and strength. The words she used like freely, grace, all my life, and passion all meant that her love was unconditional for this person. Unconditional means you love this person through all the bad and good times, and nothing can replace or alter that feeling. In Shakespearean Sonnet, 1 16, his word choice created a tone of confidence and more adamant. Words like remove, impediments, ever-fixed, and proved guided him in expressing that if it is true love then it will conquer and defy time and death by continuing on after people go away or move on. Although the tones are different, the diction used in both sonnets state hat love is undying by clarifying it does not change regardless of the best or worst situation. Both Browning and Shakespeare took a deeper spin on what love really is.They used a vide variety of figurative language, but the two sonnets contain similar hyperbole that exaggerated how powerful love can be. In Sonnet 43, she says † I love thee with the breath, smiles, tears, of all my life.. † This is hyperboloids because you can't love someone with everything in you before you even have met them. In Sonnet 1 16, Shakespeare wrote, à ¢â‚¬ but bears it out even to the edge of doom. This is overdone because we don't know what the edge of doom is. It's Just a more inventive way to say love is unaffected throughout time and remains so after death. The use of hyperbole explain how love is the most over the top feeling, and why it is the only real thing in people's lives. Love is the most complicated feeling, but yet the best one as well. Just like Elizabeth and Shakespeare, majority of poets write about how love is boundless and continuous. Through imagery, they both express that you can't measure the existence of love; limitations cannot delay or damage it. The declaration of love that will survive the grave in Sonnet 43 is similar to how love defies death in Sonnet 1 16, which is shown through diction.Elizabeth is articulating feelings of love about someone, but Shakespeare is persistence in explaining love in its most ideal form; however, they both used figurative language to stretch out in someway Just how real and pure love is. The connection between the two sonnets illustrates that love's actual worth is not known its remains a mystery. In conclusion, each poet did a phenomenal Job by using literary devices in similar ways to clearly state love is eternal.

The World of Apple

The World of Apple Introduction We are living in the world of rapid changes and innovations. Different companies are fighting for a place in the sun and trying to expand globally to win the customers’ attention, remain competitive and achieve success. The markets are full of various businesses, and it is critical for them to show their advantages and supremacy.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on The World of Apple specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Realizing this, I decided to choose a prosperous company, which is known to everyone, to find out what makes it so unique and attractive. When searching for the companies with the best performance in the world market, I understood that Apple Inc. perfectly meets my demands. This organization manages its operations in the market of digital devices, which is very broad. Moreover, the models of its products are alike so that it seems to be strange that the crowds of people are gathering near the stores when they are emerging. Thus, the fact that Apple Inc. became an extremely popular company in a relatively short period of time attracted my attention and made me select this company for the project. Apple Inc. is a well-known and successful company that is focused on technologies. The company bases its operations on the production of â€Å"personal computers, mobile communication devices, and portable digital music and video players and sell a variety of related software, services, peripherals, and networking solutions† (Annual Report 2009, 2009, para. 4). These products are sold worldwide so they can be seen not only in domestic market but also in 80 foreign ones. The official headquarter of the company is located in Cupertino, CA in the US. Here the majority of products are designed, constructed and then spread to different locations. The organization is known for its innovations, such as iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, etc. Foundations of Global Business The ma jority of big businesses use their best practices to globalize successfully. In this way, they gain an opportunity to get in the larger market and increase their profit. Apple Inc. is not an exception. According to the report, which was made several years ago, its products can be found in 80 countries all over the world (Annual Report 2009, 2009). Today, Apple operates mainly in the US, UK, Canada and China. These countries are located in Europe, the continent of North America and Asia, which allows the company to reach various destinations easily and become popular in the countries with a large population. Needless to say, that such approach increases the profit, but it also requires efficient cooperation among the personnel who has different nationalities.Advertising Looking for assessment on business economics? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The company operates in these countries also because they are the membe rs of WTO for many years already as well as of the World Bank and IMF. As they act according to the guidelines of these facilities for more than a decade, Apple Inc. can be sure that its business is safe. If these countries failed to follow the guidelines, the company might never increase the number of operations in them and could manage only online selling. Except for that, the fact that the countries have a transparent political institution and their judiciary systems establish justice makes them more attractive for businesses. Moreover, they promote globalization. The US had even implemented a global democratic reform some years ago. The UK, in its turn, has less experience of globalization, but it practices the economic expansion even though many institutions left non-global. Canada is closer to the US in its operations. The country follows the Transparency International and promotes globalization. Except for that, it is one of the best-governed countries. China is known today a s the country that gathers different businesses and has cheap labor. Such features along with particular rules of operating make the country preferable for many companies. The US, UK, Canada and China utilize practice policies that promote globalization. Moreover, these countries implement lots of changes to support and spread the idea of globalization. As a result, a range of alterations aimed at the enhancing of business procedures abroad were made, which influenced the government, promoted steps to avoid corruption and emphasized democracy. Apple Inc. creates innovative products, so the property rights are very important to it, as, being supported by the law, they ensure the success of operations. So the organization can implement its best practices to expand globally and remain competitive without facing any difficulties. As Apple’s products avoid tariff barriers, the company has an opportunity to create many stores abroad and produce its devices in lots of places. The co mpany operates on the geographic basis and its trading bloc consists of America, Europe, Asia and Retail segment (Apple Stores). The majority of the operations are held in the US, which allows the company to keep a huge amount of income in its native country. As a result, Apple Inc. has an opportunity to remain competitive even if in the countries where it operates political, economic or other conditions turn out to become adverse. Thus, local business ensures the safety of the business; Asia provides cheap labor, and Europe promotes expansion for the organization. As Apple is already a well-known company that is appreciated worldwide, there is a possibility that it would perform better under the WTO or other systems like it. In this way, the company would have an opportunity to enter a bigger market and avoid many trade barriers. It would also be supported by various experts so that there would be fewer disputes.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on The Wo rld of Apple specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Global Business Environment Apple Inc. is an extended company that operates in many countries and is known worldwide. It means that rather often the employees need to communicate with their colleagues from abroad. To interact successfully and avoid possible misunderstanding, the workers from the US need to modify their behavior. In Asian countries, for example, people have different beliefs and views on some things. That is why the personnel that works with the representatives of other nations receives training beforehand. As the company is multinational, people can easily get familiar with the features that are peculiar to German or British people, etc. When communicating with associates from China, American representatives of Apple Inc. take into account that they are very collective, which is not peculiar for the US, where individualism is more valued. Moreover, their power distance is high. J apan is less individualistic than the US but more than China. As a result, the US employees show that they are a part of a collective and cooperate with associates tightly but maintain distance. They also consider the long-term orientation instead for the short-term one till they return home. Some people claim that Apple Inc. made a mistake when decided to create a huge amount of its products in China because it is politically risky, as its court depends on the government greatly. However, the company assessed the situation and came up to the decision that the profit gained due to the cooperation is higher than the risks of the government interference in commercial and other disputes. Apple even operates in India, which is a developing and economically risky country that does not have a stable economy, as distributors allow it to expand without serious adverse outcomes. Apple operates in both civil law and common law countries. Still, the majority of the firms are found in the commo n law countries, which are similar to the native one and make it easier to manage the business, as the organization is familiar with the case law. However, the number of firms in civil law countries is not much lower in total, which proves that Apple does not consider such differences to be critical. The innovations made by Apple Inc. are claimed to be its key intellectual property. To protect it, the company trademarks the products, refers to patents and copyrights as well as licenses. However, Apple seems to have no insurance from the U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation. Corruption is the issue that is discussed widely today. The countries where Apple operates have different corruption perceptions indexes, which proves that this criterion was not the main one when deciding where to expand. Still, Apple Inc. is aware of the high risks of corruption in China and keeps a close eye on the employees.Advertising Looking for assessment on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Sometimes the organization is reported to confront with other companies in the market and produce the products using almost economic slave labor in China. But, generally, Apple’s global operations are ethical, as they take care of the employees, teach them and award, promote trust and openness. Global Business Strategy and Organization When operating worldwide, the company is to control its global business and adjust to it at the organizational level. That is why Apple Inc. has a particular structure and maintains strategies that enhance its performance. Mainly, the company enters new countries with the help of distributors, who sell its products with the similar ones that belong to other firms. In this way, Apple checks how the population reacts to the products (apps and online stores also show this). Seeing that they are in demand, Apple opens its own retail store in the country. Unfortunately, less attention is paid to the exit strategy, which might be a mistake. However, creating the products in the countries with cheap labor, it benefits greatly and has no reasons to exit. Apple is an innovative company, and its corporate mission statement deals with the creation of change. Creative ideas and unique design of the products allow the company to develop and operate successfully all over the world, which proves that the chosen strategy is working. Apple is interested in the total performance of the company but not just the stock, which allows categorizing it as a stakeholder orientation. Being mainly focused on the US, it occurs to be not a stateless corporation. Apple’s organizational structure allows the company to increase its benefit and become more and more popular every year, which proves that it is really successful. Having collaborative structure with command and control hierarchies, Apple makes the employees close to each other, creates a supporting environment and enhances the process of achieving common goals. With the help of collabo ration, people design more effective innovative ideas, which allows the company to act according to its mission statement. Apple may also utilize matrix structure as it can be advantageous due to its flexibility and absence of isolation. As the communication among the personnel with different views is motivated, more new ideas will occur. Managing Global Business When globalizing, companies are to make sure that their personnel can manage all expected activities. The employees receive special training; the organization refers to other businesses to create its products, etc. Apple also manages the global business in a particular way, which differs from the one implemented by small organizations. The company has numerous employees that work in various locations. However, they are not the members of labor unions and are not covered by collective bargaining agreements as many others. It may happen because the company disregards such approach, considering it to be unfavorable. Still, the employees are looking for changes that will let them benefit. As the company operates in different countries, it needs some staff members to work outside of the United States at least for some time. So Apple refers to expatriates when it expands to make sure that the operations are managed appropriately. Like all other workers, they are trained regarding their future duties. Except for that, expatriates receive additional training and support before moving. As the products that are sold by Apple in the international markets are the same that can be seen in the US, expatriates do not need to learn additional information about them. But they need to know the peculiarities of formal communication that are accepted in the country as well as main values and beliefs. Such information is gained not only during training but also when communicating with people who live in that country (online, for example) and by surfing the Internet (read articles, books, and people’s comments). It is not considered to be extraordinary, as Apple operates in a digital world and uses the Internet and Intranet to train the personnel. Moreover, the majority of processes related to employee training and development are held in this way, as such approach streamlines them. The products made by Apple Inc. reach remote destinations through different distribution channels in local and international markets. The company refers to its own retail stores that are available in several countries, online store, which allows attracting more clients worldwide and, of course, to the wholesalers even though they place its products along with others. Apple tends to emphasize that its devices are different from the others in the market. To do this, it promotes the products with the help of unique advertisements that can be found in different places. The ads are printed, viewed on TV and outdoors. Of course, the promotion in the international markets differs to some degree from the local because of t he cultural peculiarities of the targeted audience. Apple devices are made not only in the US, and the company is practicing global procurement. The majority of the vital components come from China, which is not a surprise, as the company has a large business in it and a huge amount of devices are made there. Moreover, the country has cheap labor and often provides efficient innovations, which streamlines the process of achieving success and reduces expenditures. Thus, it can be said that Apple is practicing global production. The company is producing the majority of its devices in China. The US is at the second place. It produces more than 5 million tons while the rest of products are made in â€Å"Italy, France, Germany and Poland† (World Apple production, n.d., para. 1). Mainly, Apple refers to outsourced goods and services to save the money needed for production but it also has insourced products. The supply chain is very important for any organization, as it allows the c ompany to export its products successfully. So it is of advantage that Apple has its supply chain, which includes such companies as â€Å"BYD Company, Compal Electronics Inc., Flextronics, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. LTD., Pegatron Corporation, Quanta Computer Inc., and Wistron Corporation† (Supplier responsibility, 2015). Apple import goods from China, as a rule. It exports them to Africa, Middle East and Europe (including Germany, Spain, Ireland, Italy, France, and others) (Annual report 2009, 2009). Conclusion Taking everything mentioned into consideration, it can be concluded that Apple Inc. is a successful company, which operates worldwide. It enters new markets being not afraid of potential risks that exist in some countries. The company has an advantageous business strategy, which allows it to manage decent performance. The employees are trained in local and foreign locations. They are targeted at cooperation and creation of innovative ideas, as they make Apple popu lar. The organization produces its devices in the US and abroad and spreads its products through retail stores, online store and with the help of wholesalers to reach a large audience. Globalization is extremely important for Apple Inc., as it provides the company with an opportunity to gain more profit and remain competitive. References Annual report 2009. (2009). Web. Associative memory essays

Associative memory essays Most memory devices store and retrieve data by addressing specific memory locations. As a result, this path often becomes the limiting factor for systems that rely on fast memory access. The time required to find an item stored in memory can be reduced considerably if the stored data item can be identified for access by the content of the data itself rather than by its address. Memory that is accessed in this way is called content-addressable memory (CAM) or associative memory. CAM provides a performance advantage over other memory search algorithms (such as binary and tree-based searches or look-aside tag buffers) by comparing the desired information against the entire list of prestored entries simultaneously, often resulting in an order-of-magnitude reduction of search time. CAMs are an outgrowth of RAM which is an integrated circuit that stores data temporarily. Data is stored in RAM at a particular location, which is called an address. In RAM, the user supplies the address and gets the data back. The number of address lines limits the depth of a memory using RAM, but the width of the memory can be extended as far as desired. With CAM, the user supplies the data and gets the address back. The CAM searches through the memory in one-clock cycle and returns the address where the data is found. The CAM can be preloaded at device startup and rewritten during device operation. CAM can accelerate any application requiring fast searches of databases, lists, or patterns, such as in image or voice recognition, or computer and communication designs. For this reason, CAM is used in applications where search time is critical and must be very short. For example, the search key could be the IP address of a network user, and the associated information could be a users access privileges and location on the network. If the search key presented to the CAM is present in the CAMs table, the CAM indicates a match and returns the associa...

Dreams from my father By Barack Obama Term Paper

Dreams from my father By Barack Obama - Term Paper Example Actually, mixed heritage presents many challenges and unanswered complexities to the people and President Obama shrewdly explored many of those complexities, while taking care to present the facts to the common public after interpreting them in his own unique way. President Obama’s mother was a white American and his father was a black man who had come to America all the way from Kenya. That is why, mixed heritage raised interesting questions for him related to race, and as he grew up, his curiosity for finding an answer also strengthened. President Obama naturally gravitated towards the African half of his identity as he grew up, despite having the privilege of living with his white American mother and maternal grandparents. This shows that race impacts an individual in a phenomenal way and no person can remain uninfluenced from his/her racial background, because racial background is a stark reality which plays a major role in making the identity of a person. President Obama has offered the readers a broad range of thoughtful meditations on race and inheritance with special regards to his own racial background and racial experience while growing up in America. President Obama has also presented his views regarding whether a person who is half-black, like himself, should accept America’s designation of black people or not. ... The significance of father in the building up of that foundation can not be underestimated. Fathers serve as tutors and counselors. They are to be idealized. They are both successful themselves and also serve as a constant source of motivation for us to be successful. Obama says that if we conduct our self analysis as men, we shall come to realize why our society lacks too many fathers. In fact, the fathers are there, but they are behaving like boys rather than responsible men. The weakness of the foundations of family in the contemporary society can fundamentally be attributed to this fact. This, according to Obama, is specifically true for the African American community. It is a fact that a vast majority of the African American children are brought up by a single parent. Obama compares his own case to the people without fathers in the society in general in these words: I know what it means to have an absent father, although my circumstances weren't as tough as they are for many you ng people today. Even though my father left us when I was two years old †¦ I was luckier than most. †¦ I screwed up more often than I should've, but I got plenty of second chances. And even though we didn't have a lot of money, scholarships gave me the opportunity to go to some of the best schools in the country. A lot of kids don't get these chances today. There is no margin for error in their lives. So my own story is different in that way. (Obama cited in Shepherd). 3. What is the key role that mistakes play in his decision making? Obama has been committing a lot of mistakes in the childhood. He says that he used to be very mischievous and would be mostly found in the principal’s office. Teachers used to teach him to

Nanotechnology and acne Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Nanotechnology and acne - Research Paper Example Nanotech medication can be devised that have strong antimicrobial properties to treat this infectious skin disease. The use of encapsulated benzoyl oxide in chitosan-alginate nanoparticles is used for the purposes of improving the activity as well as the tolerability of the anti-acne agent. Biodegradable and biocompatible nanoparticles are used in the synthesis of nontoxic anti-acne agents 6Ï€(d1 - d2)gr2/ÃŽ ·.These drugs will use stokes law once they have dissolved in the body fluid to diffuse to the target site of action. As the nanoparticles will be sinking into the body fluid forces will be acting on it. The force that will be acting in resistance of the particle will be equivalent to 6Ï€rÃŽ ·v, where r represents the radius of the blood vessel, ÃŽ · is the body fluid viscosity, and v represents the velocity at which the nanotech drug will be moving along the blood vessels. The force acting downward is equal to Ï€r2 (d1 - d2)g, where d1 represent the density of the body, d2 is the density of the blood, and g represents gravitational force. Upward and downward forces are always in balance at any constant velocity of fall. Stokes law finds its application in several fields hence its validity in the use of nanotech drugs in the treatment of acne is authentic. Therefore, when the formula is combined together, the velocity at which the nanotech drugs will be t=moving at will be v = 6Ï€(d1 - d2)gr2/ÃŽ · (Farokhzad & Langer, 2009) useful in the treatment.
